About My Family

SANDY, MY WIFE

Sandy was born on March 1st, 19** in Lakewood, Ohio, a western suburb of Cleveland. She has two brothers and one sister. She attended Lakewood public schools and graduated from Lakewood High School in 19**. She was then hired by my father in the store where I worked and this is where we first met. Our first date was a Cleveland Indians game when I intended to "fix her up" with a friend of mine. She did not take to him though and I ended up with the goods. We then became close very quickly and before I knew it, we were engaged to be married.

Except for when our children were very young, she has worked very steadily throughout our marriage. After the store she worked for Time Distribution Services going from store to store making sure the magazines were stocked in a suitable manner. She went to school at night and was trained in many office skills including computer programs and spreadsheets. This helped her to get a job near our home for a company called GeoTrac where she worked until the company was bought out by Fidelity. The local office was closed down and she was one of a handful of employees to keep her job and work from home. She found this to have mixed blessings. After about twelve years with the company, her job was eliminated on September 11th, 2008 putting us in a penny-pinching pickle.

When she is not working, Sandy enjoys watching television and reading books. I'm not sure what kind of books exactly but I think she prefers mystery/thrillers. At various times she seems to have also enjoyed reading romance and sci-fi. Lately she has also taken a keen interest in cooking.

But her greatest joy is her family. Our children and more specifically, HER five grandchildren. They live nearby and visit us often on the farm.

SARAH

Sarah Ann is our firstborn joining us on the planet on April 8th, 1979. Like all our girls, she was born when we lived in Cleveland. However, being the oldest, eleven at the time, she had developed more and stronger friendships than either of her sisters and probably resented the move to the country more than her siblings. Perhaps because of that experience, Sarah seemed hesitant to pursue friendships at school like she had in the past and became more introverted like her father.

Sarah has become a very talented cook and often makes some of my favorite meals including chicken paprikas, stuffed pepper, stuffed cabbage and a chunky chili. She was the first to join me in the garden and really seemed to like it.

Virtually her only other interest at this time was her boyfriend, Brian. They met when she was about fourteen and are still together today. they have a nine year old boy, Darren, and a newborn son, Samuel JAMES. (I'll let you guess where the "James" comes from.)

ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Mary is our middle daughter and was born October 15th, 1983, "Sweetest Day." Much like her older sibling, Libby had but one close friend in school. She is a HUGE animal lover and as a youngster would seldom be seen without a cat, bunny or some other furry creature nearby. An expert horsewoman, she was the grand champion contesting horses in our 1998 county fair. One time she stole a donkey from a neighboring farm because the animal was being mistreated.

Libby still lives on the farm in a modular home that used to belong to my mother- in-law. She has taken over Sarah's spot in the garden with enthusiasm and is not afraid to get dirty.

Libby married Josh in 2004 just about two months after the birth of their daughter, Madison. A couple of years later they added another girl to their family and named her McKinley. McKinley's reign as the baby of the family was short-lived as her brother Grant appeared early the following year.

REBEKAH

Our baby is Rebekah Eve. She was born July 26th, 1986. Much different than her sisters, Bex was outgoing and popular in school and participated in many extracurricular activities. She lettered four years in softball and her freshman year saw her make third team all conference. Her senior year she was the MVP of the team. She has played on the same coed team as her old man for a couple of years. It was definitely a career extender for me.

A good student, Bex tried her hand at Ohio University until the money finally dried up.

She is the least domesticated and most emancipated of the girls. She is an avid shopper and un-avid dishwasher. In spite of this she's more girly than her sisters and far less likely to be seen dirty anywheres but on the ball diamond.
